The Elements of Ashtanga : A Special Workshop Class at VIBES

Joey Paz (E-RYT 500 / YACEP) returns to Humboldt County, California for a special 2-hour class at VIBES Yoga Studio!

Ashtanga yoga is guided by the principle of tristhana, emphasizing introspection and transforming the practice of yoga into a dynamic, awe-inspiring, and beautiful moving meditation. Ashtanga is the basis for most modern forms of yoga today, and is comprised of three key components:

- Pranayama: Central to Ashtanga yoga, pranayama, or breath control, awakens and enhances the internal life force. Through Ujjayi pranayama, a very specific method of breathing, practitioners generate purifying internal heat that detoxifies the body from inside out.

- Bandha: Yogic postures, encompassing seated and standing postures, are performed in an unchanging sequence in Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. These postures activate three primary bandhas—mula bandha, uddiyana bandha, and jalandhara bandha— or internal energetic locks, providing structural support and creating energetic seals of life force in the subtle body.

- Drishti: Rooted in dharana, the concentration limb of Yoga, Drishti directs the gaze during practice, fostering mindfulness and concentration amidst breath and movement.

In this class series, we will learn about these elements and combine them into a fun and transformative practice together.

All levels are welcome! Even if you’ve never done Ashtanga before, we will adapt the practice to fit your needs. This class is for everyone. No matter what style of Yoga you practice, this class will provide you with tools you can use to take your practice to the next level.
